Advent 2025, Day 2

Day 2 , December 1, 2025

green advent candle that says "Advent 2025: Hope"

Theme: Hope

Readings:

Reading: Is 4:2-6 Gospel: Mt 8:5-11

Reflections:

I encourage you, again, to light a candle and just look at it for a few minutes, asking God to inspire and teach you about Hope today, all day, not just during this quiet time.  Read the scriptures, then read them one more time. Ponder the word pictures in each passage. Meditate on them.

In light of Hope, our theme this week, reflect on God's part: washing us, sheltering us, creating a canopy of cloud and fire — a covering over his people.  Imagine the prayers of everyone who loves you being like a canopy over your life.  Imagine Our Father covering you and leading you.

Then, consider our part, in light of these scriptures

In Matthew, we see our role is to respect Jesus' power and authority. Jesus held this man's example up so we'd have HOPE and FAITH in who He is and how He operates. It's not transactional (like, "If I pray and have faith, I get healing or an outcome") It's being in awe of Jesus's power and authority. Our role is to trust: All Jesus has to do is speak, and it comes into existence.

Meditate on what is popping for you in these scriptures. Or perhaps just meditate on the power Jesus has with his words alone. Recall and remember examples of Jesus speaking and miracles happening, both in scripture and, maybe, in your life (comment below if that has happened to you personally). Pray for more respect and awe of his power.

Bonus! My Advent 2025 playlist is ready for you to listen to on Apple Music. It's diverse, and it was so much fun to put together as I read through the scriptures and wrote this series.

NOTE the songs are on Apple Music, which you can get for a month for free if you are new... I just didn't want an obnoxious YouTube Ad ruining your quiet time :-)
