Day 22: Living the Word (Through the Spirit), Not Just Knowing It

Reflection:
Lent is not only a season of reflection—it is a season of awakening. In Deuteronomy 4:1–9, Moses invites God’s people to live in such a way that others notice: “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” But this wisdom was never meant to come from effort alone. It flowed from staying close to the living God—the One who draws near and speaks.
Jesus carries this same heartbeat in Matthew 5:17–19. When He says He has come to fulfill the Law, He is offering more than clarification—He is offering life. In Jesus, God’s will is no longer just written on stone or scrolls; it is embodied, breathed, and later poured out through the Holy Spirit.
This is where Lent becomes deeply personal. We are not asked to awaken ourselves through discipline or willpower. We are awakened by the Spirit—the same Spirit who brings God’s Word to life within us, stirring our hearts, softening our resistance, and shaping our desires. Obedience becomes less about pressure and more about participation—keeping in step with what the Spirit is already doing.
Lent gives us space to ask honest questions.
Where have God’s words drifted from something personal into something distant or routine?
Where have we learned the language of faith without letting the Spirit shape our daily choices, conversations, or loves?
Jesus doesn’t scold us here—He invites us back.
So this Lent, we pray not only, “Lord, show me Your ways,” but also, “Spirit, wake me up.” Awaken us to God’s nearness. Awaken us to lives that quietly reflect His wisdom, holiness, and love. And as we awaken, may others glimpse—not our effort—but the living God at work among us.
