Day 31: The Never-Ending Journey of Silence and Solitude

Readings:

John 7:1-30

Reflection:

During this Lent journey, John 7:1–30 serves as a powerful lesson on perfect timing and latency. While on this earth, even Jesus' own brothers pressured him to "show himself" and seek public glory, yet Jesus chose a path of strategic silence and "secret" movement.

Here is how this passage relates to my need and space for silence and solitude:

Jesus' brothers urged him to go to the Feast of Tabernacles to gain followers and "show [his] works to the world". Jesus resisted the pressure. This Lent, solitude is my way of resisting the pressure to be constantly "seen" or "productive" by the world's standards.

Jesus eventually went to the feast, "not publicly but in private". This reminds me that God’s most important work often happens in the secret spaces of my life, away from the noise and judgment of others. Can you relate to my JOMO? (joy of missing out)

God’s timing. God’s word says that people tried to arrest Jesus, but could not "because his hour had not yet come". Silence helps me stop forcing my own schedule and start trusting that there is a divine story for my life that unfolds in God’s perfect time.

Solitude gives me the space to remember my own "true origin" as a child of God, rather than being defined by my hometown, job, or reputation. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and so are you.

“Solitude and Silence” is that same practice Jesus our Lord implemented: waiting on God before He acted.

Prayer

God in heaven, thank you for giving me another day to practice hearing you.

Thank you for giving me your scripture that leads my path and the path of my family.

Thank you for your grace and mercy that carry me each day.

I humbly ask, Lord, that you allow me to hear your voice today. Amen.
